Welcome to Year 2
It is a pleasure to welcome you all to Maple Class and Sycamore Class for an exciting year in year 2. We will be doing lots of fantastic learning this year and we can’t wait to get started and get to know you all.
This year Maple Class will be taught by Mrs Ambler and Sycamore Class will be taught by Mrs Gates We will be supported in our year group by Mrs Wilkinson, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Palmer.
If you have any questions or would like to talk to us, please speak to any of the team at the gate before or after school and we will be happy to help you. If you aren’t able to catch us then, please write a note in your child’s reading record book. Alternatively, you can make an appointment at the school office.

Library
We will aim to take the children to the library each week so that they can choose a library book to take home. Both classes will aim to visit the library on a Tuesday.

Helping your child at home: To help your child at home please read together as much as possible and record where you have got up to in your child’s reading record. It is useful to ask your child questions about what they are reading to check that they understand the story of information that they are reading. In year 2 the reading level your child reached in year 1 will be used as a starting point. This year we will be using the Little Wandle phonics and spelling materials for year 2 to ensure a smooth transition from year 1 and to help secure the fundamentals of spelling. It is useful to keep practicing the year 1 common exception words to ensure that your child is really confident and secure when they use these words in their writing. We will begin working on the year 2 common exception words soon. In Maths please continue to practise number bonds to 10, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and understanding what each digit in a number means - in 26, the ‘2’ means 20. We will begin learning the fundamentals of multiplication in the spring term and, therefore, will be giving out Times Table Rockstars log ins and information in our spring parents evening meetings. |
