Useful Information
School Day
The Year 1 team will open the doors to our classroom off the main playground at 9:15. Anyone arriving after this time will need to enter school through the school office. There will be a member of staff on the door so if you have anything that you need to quickly communicate to the teacher please come talk to us. The children will have a playtime at 10:00 and 14:00 some fruit is provided but is not always available so we suggest the children bring in a piece of fruit as a snack. Lunch is at 12:00 and in Year 1 you can choose for your child to receive a free school meal or you can send them in with a packed lunch. We politely remind all parents that we are very careful to maintain the safety of the children in our school and that we are a nut free school. The end of the day is 15:30 and the children will be delivered back into your care through the same doors that you dropped them off.
PE
This year we are starting a programme to encourage the children to get fit by having them wear their PE kit to school on the days they have PE, in our case that is a Tuesday and Wednesday. They will be allowed to wear shorts, t-shirt, a jumper and trainers in the summer and in the winter we suggest a tracksuit and trainers.
Homework
Your child will be receiving homework on a Friday to be returned the following Wednesday and should only take around 20 minutes. If your child is self isolating while waiting for Covid 19 test results that do not appertain directly to the child their work will be put on Google Classroom.

Spring Term
In Literacy, we are going to be focusing on continuing to develop the children's phonics knowledge to develop their fluency in reading and writing. We will be developing our grammar and handwriting to support children in understanding how to correctly form sentences and sequences of sentences.
In Numeracy, we will be continuing to develop their understanding of number and ability to count forwards and backwards to 100. We will be starting to learn more about multiplication, division and fractions. We will continue to practice their fundamental skills such as number bonds to 20, addition and subtraction.
In Science, we are going to be learning about everyday materials, during this topic, the children will learn to identify and name a variety of materials, identify what materials objects are made from and about the properties of materials. We will focus on developing their scientific vocabulary and give children opportunities to take part in scientific experiments.
In History, we are going to be learning about the history of explorers. Focusing on Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong and the differences between life in the two time periods. We will learn about the events of their explorations and what the impact of these events have been on the world.
In Geography, we are going to be learning about the geography of the UK. We will focus on learning about the four nations and their geography, the oceans that surround the United Kingdom and the weather patterns of the UK. Through this topic we will be continuing to practice map skills and understanding of physical and human geography.
In RE, we are going to be learning about sacred places including the church, mosque and synagogue. We will think about what it means to be sacred, how you should behave and treat sacred places and objects that you might find which have significance.
For PE lessons we will be developing the children's agility, balance and stamina through a range of multi-skill activities designed to develop the core skills that children need to be successful in all physical activities. For example, hand-eye co-ordination and running.
In Art, we are focusing on learning about artists from all over the world, trying different techniques inspired by these artists and then applying those skills to a final art project.
