Each year group had some fun science activities and experiments to complete throughout the week.
Acorn and Chestnut made some amazing bird feeders using pinecones, lard and bird seed.
Willow and Hawthorn made 'elephant toothpaste', using fairy liquid, yeast and hydrogen peroxide. It was very exciting to see the mixture expand creating lots of bubbles and foam.
Maple and Sycamore made their own soap! To do this they had to melt down a base before choosing a colour and scent. They then left it to set in a mould.
Pine and Palm completed an egg drop experiment and had to think about different materials they could use to protect the egg when they dropped it. They ensured it was a fair test by making sure they dropped each egg from the same height and the same person dropped it. Lots of the eggs survived!
Oak and Elm completed a fizzy rockets experiment. By mixing Steradent tablets with water they were able to create carbon dioxide which built up pressure in the bottle and set it off like a rocket as it finally released. They found that the hotter the water and the more Steradent tablets they used the more likely the rocket was to work!
Across the school, each class got to spend some time doing some gardening outside with Mrs Godin and working together to look after our school environment. It looks fantastic and we cant wait for all of our flowers and herbs to start growing.
We also have been holding a Cress growing competition across the school, with a prize for the winning class! Winners to be announced next week.
We had an amazing week.
