Each year group within our school spent the day exploring how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world.
Reception explored South Africa. They were surprised to learn that Christmas time is hot there and they enjoyed decorating baubles to decorate their 'South African Christmas tree'.
Year 1 explored Mexico. They enjoyed designing piñata's and learning about the poinsettia plant.
Year 2 explored Italy. They enjoyed listening to Italian Christmas carols and learning about the Italian gift giving custom 'Befana'.
Year 3 explored China. They were interested to learn that Christmas is usually only celebrated in the larger cities and enjoyed designing their own decorations.
Year 4 explored Russia. They enjoyed learning about the folk tale 'Babushka' and worked hard to compare the different ideas/tales about Father Christmas in both the UK and Russia.
It was great to explore Christmas from different viewpoints and everybody had a really fun day!
